
Scaling the Solution
In some environments, multiple archival storage units are required due to the rate or volume of data to be archived.
Symantec Enterprise Vault scales horizontally and the partitions of a Vault Store can be placed on different network
shares. Likewise, the Sun Fire X4500 Server Network Attached Archival Storage solution can also be scaled horizontally
by adding more servers.
It is a best practice to configure SAM to make a second copy of the archived data to an external device, such as a tape
library. However, in large-scale environments, it can become complex and cost-prohibitive to have each Sun Fire X4500
Server attached to a tape library. It might be simpler to consider a tape-less solution, using the NFS-based disk archives
supported with Storage Archive Manager. Configure a second tier of one or more Sun Fire X4500 Servers as NFS servers
to act as a SAM disk archives, as shown Figure 7.
